In a press conference on Monday, DeSantis called McCarthy's comments a "badge of honor" and said that he is "proud to stand up against the Washington establishment." He also criticized McCarthy for working with Trump to "add $7.8 trillion to our national debt."

"I think it's a badge of honor to be criticized by Kevin McCarthy," DeSantis said. "He's a career politician who has been part of the Washington establishment for decades. He's the same guy who supported Donald Trump's disastrous spending policies that have added trillions to the national debt. I'm proud to stand up against that kind of corruption."

DeSantis's comments come as he and Trump are both seen as potential contenders for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. DeSantis has been gaining popularity among Republicans in recent months, while Trump's approval ratings have declined.

It is unclear how McCarthy's comments will impact his relationship with DeSantis. However, they do highlight the divisions within the Republican Party as it prepares for the 2024 election.

McCarthy's comments also come at a time when he is facing criticism from some Republicans for his handling of the January 6th attack on the Capitol. McCarthy has been accused of being too close to Trump and of not doing enough to hold him accountable for the attack.

It will be interesting to see how the DeSantis-McCarthy feud plays out in the coming months. It is possible that it could damage both men's chances of winning the Republican presidential nomination in 2024.
