Liberals Blast NBC News and Kristen Welker for 'Normalizing' Trump on 'Meet the Press'

Liberals are criticizing NBC News and Kristen Welker for giving Donald Trump a platform on her debut show of "Meet the Press." Critics argue that Welker "normalized" Trump and treated him like a "normal, legitimate candidate" when he is actually a "dangerous demagogue" who tried to overthrow democracy.

"Kristen Welker normalized a dangerous demagogue who continues to spread the lie that the 2020 election was stolen," tweeted former New York Times reporter turned media critic Bill Carter. "This is not just irresponsible journalism. It's dangerous."

Other critics accused Welker of not being tough enough on Trump during the interview. They say she should have challenged him more forcefully on his lies and conspiracy theories.

"Welker gave Trump a free pass to spread his lies and misinformation," wrote media critic Margaret Sullivan in a column for The Washington Post. "She should have been more aggressive in challenging him and holding him accountable."

Welker has defended her decision to interview Trump, saying that it is important to give all sides of a story a voice. She has also said that she challenged Trump on his lies and conspiracy theories, but that he refused to answer her questions directly.

"I think it's important to hear from all sides, even if you don't agree with them," Welker said in an interview with The New York Times. "I also think it's important to hold people accountable for their words and actions. And that's what I tried to do with President Trump."

However, critics argue that Welker's interview with Trump did not give viewers a balanced view of the issues. They say that she gave Trump too much time to air his grievances and spread his lies, without adequately challenging him.

"Welker's interview with Trump was a disaster," wrote former MSNBC host Keith Olbermann in a blog post. "She gave him a platform to spread his lies and misinformation, and she did not challenge him nearly enough."

The criticism of Welker and NBC News is a reflection of the deep divisions in American politics. Liberals believe that it is dangerous to give Trump a platform to spread his lies and misinformation. Conservatives, on the other hand, believe that the media should give all sides of a story a voice, even if they disagree with them.

Ultimately, it is up to each individual to decide whether or not they believe that Welker "normalized" Trump with her interview. There is no right or wrong answer to this question, as it is a matter of opinion.
